The Exploratory is the origin of all our operations.

For over 27 years, Wellington has developed this system to identify new areas with potential, evaluate them, and over time transform them into established fishing experiences.

Each expedition is unique and takes place in a new area, meaning the Exploratory is constantly evolving and is never repeated in the same way.

This approach not only allows us to discover new waters, but also helps maintain a natural balance in the ecosystem, avoiding overfishing and ensuring consistent fishing experiences over time. It also contributes to environmental conservation and community partnership initiatives, helping create sustainable opportunities for the local communities connected to these remote regions.

Where does this expedition take place?

Rio Jari

The Rio Jari is one of the last major northern tributaries of the Amazon River and one of the most unique river systems in the Amazon Basin. Its combination of rocky structures, rapids, deep pools, remote forests, and some of the largest trees found in the Amazon creates a remarkable ecosystem capable of supporting extraordinary biodiversity.

This isolated environment provides ideal conditions for a wide variety of sportfish species, diverse birdlife, and abundant wildlife, while offering anglers the opportunity to experience one of the most remote and visually impressive regions of the Brazilian Amazon.

Located within a protected reserve in the Brazilian Amazon, this remote operation benefits from controlled access and authorized agreements that allow AFW to responsibly develop the region’s fishing potential. Our presence contributes to environmental conservation while supporting long-term partnerships and community development initiatives with local populations.

What is the camp like?

Safari-style structure.

The camp is designed to provide a comfortable and well-organized base, even in the most remote areas of the Amazon.

Inspired by traditional safari expeditions, the operation was originally conceived with elevated private safari-style tent units, allowing us to establish camps in hard-to-reach locations while maintaining a consistent standard throughout every expedition.

As more of our guests expressed interest in enjoying this unique exploratory experience with a higher level of comfort, we decided to evolve the operation by replacing the original tent units with private elevated cabins, specifically designed to provide greater comfort while preserving the expedition’s remote and adventurous character.

The original safari-style tent units remain part of the operation and will continue to be located farther upriver from the main camp, available for guests who wish to enjoy a more rustic camping experience during the expedition.

Each angler enjoys a private cabin equipped with air conditioning, comfortable beds, electricity, hot water, and a private bathroom.

All cabins are connected by elevated wooden walkways, allowing easy movement throughout the camp.

The common areas are designed for dining, relaxation, and sharing stories after each day on the water, while daily laundry service allows guests to travel light despite the camp’s remote location.

What is the fishing experience like?

Natural fish behavior.

Fishing in the Exploratory takes place in environments where fish behavior remains natural, without constant fishing pressure.

Each day adapts to the river’s conditions, exploring different structures and areas, creating a dynamic and varied experience.

Fishing is done from specialized boats, with two anglers per boat and an experienced guide with knowledge of the area.

Each boat is equipped with seats featuring back support and swivel bases, providing comfort throughout the day.

In addition, each boat is equipped with Starlink internet, allowing communication and connectivity during the expedition.

The lack of previous fishing activity results in more responsive fish, offering a more authentic experience with every cast.
